Yachats Academy of Arts & Sciences

The Yachats Academy of Arts & Science is honored to present an evening with former Deputy Chief of the US Forest Service, Jim Furnish, moderated by Paul Engelmeyer of the Audubon Society. The presentation takes place on Friday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Yachats Commons. (Please note the 7:30 start time.) Furnish will present excerpts from his newly published memoir, Toward a Natural Forest: The Forest Service in Transition, which explores the tumultuous transition he experienced within the federal agency charged with balancing management on National Forests across the country. Currently a consulting forester in the Washington D.C. area, Furnish has 34 years of experience in the USDA Forest Service, including as Deputy Chief of the agency. The evening will include a screening of Seeing the Forest, a 30-minute documentary by Alan Honick of Seattle, chronicling how the Siuslaw National Forest survived after the spotted owl crisis. There is no charge for this presentation. A $5 donation helps cover publicity expenses. For more Information, log onto www.yachatsacademy.org, GoYachats.com or call 541-961-6695.
