Oscar Wilde for Pope!

We, the subscribers to this group, think that the world in general and the Holy Catholic Church in particular would be better places if playwright, poet and "Prince Paradox" Oscar Wilde would have been made Pope, preferrably during his lifetime.

We are convinced that the combination of religious ideals with aestheticism and a well-chosen carnation for ones lapel would have a profound beneficial influence on the development of society.

Seeing that it is unlikely for Oscar Wilde to be promoted to Pope post mortem, we most humbly appeal to his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, to instead declare the deceased a Saint, or should that be deemed unfeasible, beatify him, or at least assert that he was a nice enough chap allround with a good taste in sherries and repartees, who promoted the very reasonable idea that wit lies at the heart of every good ethos.
