Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans PTSD, TBI, and Physical Wounds GROUP

The group is OPEN to anyone who wants to join but only members can see posts. In no way is this page intended to replace or substitute for services rendered by mental health or medical professionals. We are here simply to support each other in our efforts to adjust to the experiences and consequences of military service.

1. No criticizing or belittling ANYTHING anyone is going through.

2. If you feel like you are going to hurt yourself or someone else, PLEASE call the VA hotline. We are not the answer to that, and we don't know where you are to get you help. We are not a mental health organization. We do not offer crisis response, counseling or therapeutic services. Information contained within this website, our publications, or member communications are not, nor intended to be, professional advice.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide, tell someone who can help right away:

Call 911 for emergency services or go to the nearest hospital ER. Call the toll-free, 24-hour hotline of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) and press 1 to be connected to the Veterans-Only hotline. Contact Military OneSource at 1-800-342-9647.

3. Please do not give medical advice. You can discuss your various experiences with different medicines but we are here as peers, not doctors. Conversely, don't stop or start meds because someone on here told you to.

4. Don't quit. Tomorrow is tomorrow, and you have no idea what it may bring. Might bring a cure, a new life, anything. So don't quit.

5. No politics.

6. We're kind of like Vegas: What is said in the group stays in the group.

7. We are here for each other, and it's certainly noble to make a buddy check from time to time. But please remember that this is Facebook. There are only 3 appropriate times to cross from this online interaction into a real-world interaction (contacting law enforcement, family, etc., to physically locate or intervene with someone):

* When someone has specifically requested it (i.e., extra-terrestrials are trying to kill me, if I disappear please call the police)
* If someone clearly indicates their IMMINENT intent to commit suicide
* If someone clearly indicates their IMMINENT intent to commit homicide

If one of these things isn't true, then continue to care, continue to send that individual emails if you're FB friends, but DO NOT cross the line into trying to locate or identify people.

*All members are entitled to offer personal opinions but are asked to refrain from offering advice under the guise of professional training, education, or experience.
