Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church

History

The Church Planning Project of Orchard Road Presbyterian Church began in the late 1980's, gathering momentum by the early 1990's.

As the four congregations at Orchard Road Presbyterian Church grew rapidly, more space and facilities were needed. This led to the decision to tender for the site at Bukit Batok. The Housing Development Board awarded a 30-year lease beginning 1 July 1992. Planning permission was granted on 17 August 1993, and within two short years, the building works were finally completed.
The inaugural service of the English Congregation took place on 2 July 1995 and a few weeks later, the Mandarin and Indonesian Congregations commenced regular Sunday Services.

Worship facilities comprise two sanctuaries with galleries and a chapel. Ancillary facilities include a multipurpose hall with rooms for conference, seminar, counseling, library, choir, creche and Sunday Schools.
All of these, together with the growing ministry bear witness and testimony to the grace of God and commitment of His people.

Ministries

The church has six main ministries – Worship, Choir, Congregational Care,
Cell Group, Christian Education, Youth and Young Adult, and Missions and Evangelism.

The worship ministry aspires to establish a seamless worship that inspires the congregation to praise and exaltation, and meets up regularly to hone their musical skills for the glory of God. The church worship team is a dedicated one that desires to inspire the congregation to live a life of worship.

The congregational care ministry is in charge of organising welfare activities and establish a culture of compassion, care and concern and bonding within the church. The church just had its church camp this year at Tanjong Putri Golf Resort, Malaysia, where the sign-ups exceeded expectations.

The church also enjoys a Women’s Fellowship, and recently the Men’s Fellowship. These groups meet up on a weekly basis to pray for and encourage one another spiritually, similar to the cell group ministry.

The cell group ministry encompasses the goal of fostering closer fellowship, encouraging growth and providing mutual support and care for CG members and their families and friends. The church sees the importance of meeting up regularly in small groups to grow together and serve together. The Matthew and Friends Outreach Programme has also been initiated in each cell group.

The Christian education ministry encompasses the Sunday School Ministry and a discipleship curriculum for adults. The church recently embarked on a weekly discipleship class for adults to help the congregation to be firmly grounded on the Word.

The Youth and Young Adult Ministry has come a long way since its formation, and now boasts a total of about 60 youths ranging from 12 to 19 years of age. Coming from different schools, these youths adds on to the vibrancy in the church, and encourages one another to grow in the Lord. The fellowship prepares the youths for further service in the church as well, equipping them with many useful skills and knowledge. The ministry meets up every Sunday to have praise and worship, bible study classes and cell group.

The Missions and Evangelism Ministry includes the niche Puppet Ministry. The BBuppets stages performances during special occasions with the objective of sharing God's message with the Bukit Batok community. They have their very own stage, curtains and puppets. Most importantly, they have a core group of talented and dedicated puppeteers and support crew, who seek to carry out God's will. The ministry also manages the children sub-ministry at the PCS Childcare Centres, Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade at Keming and Princess Elizabeth Primary School, and the Millennia Institute partnership with the Singapore Youth for Christ organisation. The church also supports three missionary families, and also a pastor’s ministry in Nagaland, India.
