Melanie Damishana, ECD, Guyana

This is a group for anyone that lives or lived in Melanie Damishana at some point.
The village of Melanie Damishana (Melanie’s Village in Swahili) was the brain child of our late leader President Forbes Burnham. He named it after his daughter Melanie Abiola. It was part of his promotion of self-help housing schemes and was initially built by GDF soldiers, Police and other Joint Service members. Construction started in 1972 and a few shorts years after the Public Service Ministry became part of the housing expansion. It was also all part of a cooperative effort which worked; houses were on the ground faster than if you were building it yourself.
