The history of Ravensmead and surrounding towns is a history of struggle, a history of truimph over adversity. Our parents found a home in Tiervlei after they were forcefully removed from District 6, Die Akkers and other "whites only' declared residential areas.
Our communities have a rich history that needs to be told. A history of contradiction, a history of Coloured Representative Council (CRC), 1976 uprising, undemocratic Tri-cameral parliament and Management Committees vs popular revolt lead by the United Democratic Front, Ravensmead Youth Student Organsiation (RAYSO), Ravensmead Uitsig Residents Association (RUCA) and various education and religious institutions.
Our schools have produced community and professional leaders true to the spirit of the Florida High skool lied "EN AS ONS WEG GAAN OM ONS VOLK TE DIEN". Our rugby players and school sports have always upheld the SACOS motto "No normal sports in a abnormal society".
The aim of this FACEBOOK PAGE to create space for residents, locals and visitors to reflect on their experience with Tiervlei, Ravensmead, Uitsig and Cravenby and to increase the awareness of and promote local history
The amended objectives (20/11/11) of this page is to continue as contact point for the RUC community (globally), information sharing platform for community initiatives (RUCdi etc) and to capture current social experience of residents.

As we write our stories let us remember one rule YOUR VIEWPOINT IS YOUR STANDPOINT, it is in our diversity of opinion that the full history will be written.
Friend Request Amendment 06/01/2014
Dear RUC FB Members... We are approaching 1000 members and I observe that we increasingly get request from 'individuals' who want to advertise products or services (this include China). To ensure this page remain true to its mission the following 'rules' will apply to accepting new friend request:
residents or ex residents will be accepted;
scholars/students/teachers and ex SST will be accepted;
friend request for advertising from RUC/ex RUC/and adjacent community service providers will be accepted;
any education and community development service providers will be accepted
NO friend request will be accepted from political parties or their subsidiaries, however healthy discussion on party political policies will be encouraged as part of community education
