Albion, Guyana

Albion Estate, a sugar plantation, is located 12 miles east of the town of New Amsterdam in Berbice, Guyana (formerly British Guiana). The estate, once the largest in the English-speaking Caribbean was established in colonial days. The Albion area includes Albion Front, Nigg, Belvedere, Hampshire, Williamsburg, Chesney Front, Kilcoy, Chesney, Guava Bush, Doctor Bush, Sand Reef and Topoo. Large numbers of residents have now migrated to North America and the UK, with most settled in North York City (primarily the borough of Queens) and the Toronto area. On July 4, 2009, a reunion/picnic held in Toronto attracted thousands as did a similar event held on August 8, 2009 in New York City.
