ART IN ACTION BOOTLE

The ART IN ACTION BOOTLE group site is a collection of photographs taken by Bootle residents including children, teenagers, adults and pensioners at diverse locations throughout Bootle from 1977 onwards.
Individuals took portraits of family and friends, also of people they came into contact with on the streets of Bootle. Some of the portraits are candid and others are posed. The collection of photographs document the local environment, industry, the working class estates and neighbourhoods, the streetscapes, housing and buildings, community events and activities, social issues, etc. The photographs show the truth about where they lived and their lives.
These photographs represent slices of BOOTLE LIFE AND EXPERIENCE, AND CONTRIBUTE TO A COLLECTIVE MEMORY. Many of the photographs are powerful, meaningful and emotional, bringing memories of laughter, sadness and sometimes tears, photographs that remain with us forever. Publishing these photographs taken by the Bootle residents will hopefully offer a valuable source of reference to anyone interested in social history, urban change, and add to our understanding of how Bootle has developed as a town.

"The work of 'ARTS AND ACTION' has inspired art work and community activity that accurately reflects the social conditions in the area in which they are active. This is inevitable and in the tradition of all great art" — statement made by ALLAN ROBERTS, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR BOOTLE 1979-1990.
