Arsenal Football Club was born when a group of workers at Dial Square armaments factory in Woolwich, notably exiled Scotsman David Danskin and Jack Humble, decided to form a football team to break the monotony of factory life. it was on the 11th of December 1886 that factory workers from Woolwich Arsenal formed the then called Dial Square Football Club , played their first ever football match against Eastern Wanderers winning 6-0 . Two weeks later at a meeting held in the Royal Oak public house in Woolwich on the 25th December , workers agreed to change the name from Dial Square to Royal Arsenal .
