2014 LAHANAS Retreat at BC Law

Congratulations on your acceptance to Boston College Law School!

At Boston College Law School (BCLS), we strive to possess a spirit of diversity and inclusion. Nowhere is that more evident than in the work of our student-run LAHANAS organizations, which support all BCLS students in navigating the law school experience, with a particular focus on diversity.

One of the great traditions of our LAHANAS organizations is the annual LAHANAS Diversity Retreat, which takes place this year on August 20 & 21, immediately before orientation. This retreat is a fun, comprehensive preview of life at BCLS and an invaluable introduction to the Boston legal community. If BCLS is the DisneyLand of Law Schools (it is), this retreat is the FastPass to the front of the line.

Day 1 activities will start on the BCLS campus and end with an overnight stay at the Intercontinental Hotel. Day 2 will be a full day of activities at the law firm of Goulston & Storrs, on the beautiful Seaport waterfront.

Activities and panels will include:

- Welcoming remarks from Dean Joseph Liu
- Lunch with professors and successful BCLS LANAHAS alumni
- Exam preparation and study strategies from top students
- Professor- and section-specific tips and tricks
- Career panels featuring both veteran and young attorneys
- A mock class with a BCLS professor
- Networking tips and practice sessions
- An answer to the question "what does the LAHANAS acronym stand for?"

And the retreat culminates in a great networking dinner with Dean Vincent Rougeau and the attorneys of Goulston & Storrs, a firm that has shown an everlasting commitment to diversity in Boston.

Candidly, I was on the fence about attending last year, afraid that it would be an awkward, fluffy kumbaya-fest. Instead, it turned out to be the single most valuable thing I did before law school, providing me a safe space to ask all the questions I thought were kind of dumb but that everyone else had, too. Not to mention the fact that I made some of the best friends of my life there --- including one guy who asked me to be the best man at his wedding!

Boston College Law School is a special place, and this retreat will show you why. So come!
