Hayao Miyazaki is one of the greatest animation directors of our time. Miyazaki was born on January 5th, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan. He started his career in animating at the Toei Douga studio in the early 1960s. Soon he became involved in many Japanese animation classics.

In 1971, Miyazaki and Isao Takahata move to A Pro and then to Nippon Animation in 1973. In 1978, he directed 'Future Boy Conan' which was his first TV series. A year later, Miyazaki directed his first movie 'Lupin the III: The Castle of Cagliostro.'

He released 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' in 1984 which was based on the manga he had started years before. The manga version of 'Nausicaä' was not completed until the early 1990s. The success of 'Nausicaä' led to the creation of Studio Ghibli.

Disney's commitment to introduce the films to the rest of the world will let more people appreciate the high-quality works Miyazaki has given us. Since then, classic films such as 'Princess Mononoke' and 'Spirited Away' have received Academy Awards and became box office hits.

Miyazaki’s son, Goro, has taken on the role of director in the new film 'Tales from Earthsea' which received much critical review.

Miyazaki uses women as the main character and themes such as love, life, and death in most of his films. His breathtaking scenery and lovable characters have awed audiences throughout the world. Miyazaki's films have certainly captured the hearts and imagination of children and adults alike.
