You've Got a Friend in Ridgefield Park

For residents, past and present, of the Great Village of Ridgefield Park, NJ:

- Because you can remember Lloyd's Pharmacy, Palmer Video, Citizens First Bank, Ridgefield Park Pizza, Palisade's Savings, and Chicken Delight.
- Because you know where Victory Lane is.
- Because you've graduated from Grant, Lincoln, or Roosevelt, and gone on to the fine halls of RPHS.
- (or, conversely) because you've circumvented public school altogether, but still have friends from RPHS.
- Because you remember when Lincoln School didn't technically exist.
- Because you got your first haircut at Joe the Barber's or Ann's Place or Ralph's.
- Because you and/or someone in your family is on the fire department and/or ambulance corps and/or rescue squad.
- Because your dentist is probably Dr. Zuckosky, and you still go to him even when you move out of town.
- Because you have watched the Santoro Bros. Garden State Fireworks Extravaganza and, if you were high up enough on the hill, could see the NYC fireworks at the same time.
- Because WE DO 4th OF JULY RIGHT. You've marched, pontificated from the honor float, or have ridden/driven a float/antique car/emergency vehicle during the Civic Parade OR you have been wheeled around/pushed in a stroller during the baby parade, for which you came in 7th place.
- Because you attended Summer Rec as a kid and/or worked there later on. You have fond memories of NokHockey, trips to the Rink, Kick Ball, Sam the Ice Cream man, and Mr. Morris during your summer.
- Because a special event in your life was celebrated at the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus, or a firehouse.
- Because you played tee-ball and/or soccer at SOME point.
- Because your farm league coaches always bought you hot dogs and soda at the Vets Park stand (where your parents may or may not have been manning it that night) even though you lost 2-492 to the Hageman Roofing team.
- Because you proudly attended the Ridgefield Park Co-Op Nursery School.
- Because you get that rousing feeling of civic obligation whenever Mayor Fosdick gives a speech.
- Because you can navigate one-way streets like it's no one's business. You also find irony in the fact that the 4th of July parade goes the wrong way up a one way street.
- Because you've never seen a cul-de-sac, and Ehler Ct. and Alpine Ct. don't count.
- Because you are instantly aware when BSA Troop 3 has an event somewhere in town.
- Because you are embarrased by Bogota.
- Because you've seen 6th Street in the aftermath of Cabbage Night.
- You know that the number streets (or Westview) is the best place to go trick-or-treating.
- Because we're one of 4 villages in the state (the other 3 are Loch Arbour, Ridgewood, and So. Orange - I knew this without consulting Wikipedia), and there is no other municipality named "Ridgefield Park".
- Because 2 of the biggest highways in the country run through our fair town (hint: not 46), and because a little part of you died inside when they put up sound walls.
- Because you know when it's 9am, 12 noon, 3pm, and 6pm because of the bells at St. Francis.
- Because you know the joy of it only taking 10 minutes to get to the city and the convenience of a multiplex cinema on Challenger Road.
- Because you've watched CHANNEL 10 NEWS (Mike Forbes, Joanne Santiglia, Jennifer Madden, Brian DeNovelis) to see if you were on it after they covered the science fair or burying of the time capsule at St. Francis.
- Because you remember playing in the snow after the Blizzard of '96.
- Because your mom or dad decorated your house with an insane amount of lights for the Christmas decorating contests, even though you knew those two houses on Christie Street would probably win anyway.
- Because you gained serious air time sledding down the hill at the foot of Union Place, and may or may not have landed in a marsh.
- Because you can hear that weird horn from Palisades Park at night.
- Because 7-11 is the REAL epicenter of town.
- Because you're parents dragged you to a "Concert in the Park" and you wound up playing on the McGowan Park playground instead of listening to the Rutherford Community Band.
- Because, in addition to Leonia and Bogota, The Adventures of Pete and Pete could have also easily been filmed in Ridgefield Park.
- Because Ozzie Nelson is from our town, and if you don't know who that is, well then you at least know that the address of the High School bears his name.
- Because you've seen or plan to see the episode of Ozzie and Harriet where Ozzie non-chalantly says: "I remember Christmas back in Ridgefield Park..."
- Because someone in your family owns a big red "Tercentennial Book".
- Because you graduated from D.A.R.E.
- Because you remember when the Glen Rock Pops used to be the only thing standing between you and the fireworks, and EVERY YEAR there would be a Ryder truck and a blue Chevy Blazer on the field with them (if you don't remember this, you are lying)
- Because you were part of the summer reading club at the library and attended the lame-ass party at the end of it.
- Because you know better than to make a right on red anywhere in town.
- Because the 4th of July program-cover-art is a cut-throat competition amongst junior high kids.
- Because you have fond memories of the Town Pool and its bountiful snack bar.
- Because you've only been up Voorhees Place once, maybe twice in your life.
- Because you've run into IGA to get milk or bread and wound up spending half an hour talking to the 9+ people you run into.
- Because the words "Ridgefield Park" instantly bring a smile to your face and a memory of one or more of the above!
