Greenland Dogs

Spitz-type dogs have existed throughout the Arctic regions since antiquity. With the mechanization of travel in the second half of the 20th century, their numbers rapidly diminished. The Greenland Dog is a very strong polar spitz built for endurance at strenuous work as a sledge dog under Arctic conditions. They have a thick stand-off outer coat and dense under wool, which allow them to withstand constant outdoor living in temperatures that can reach -50 to - 80 degrees F ( -45 to - 70 degrees C).It is similar to the Canadian Eskimo Dog, but is not as heavy and slightly taller. As a hunter the Greenland Dog sniffs out breathing holes of seals and keeps Polar Bears at bay.
