Yeshiva University LGBTQ+ Allies/Student Chapter (Former or Current)

YU is not exactly an ideal place to be queer. Yet there are LGBTQ+ students there, whether they decided to attend already knowing that they were queer, or discovered this aspect of themselves once already there.

The aim of this group is to create a visible community of LGBTQ+-friendly current or former YU students to counteract the bigotry and/or erasure that queer people may face at YU. You do not have to be LGBTQ+ to join the group; you simply must be as welcoming of LGBTQ+ people as you are of straight cisgender people. Speaking out against anti-queer and anti-trans bigotry and erasure when you see it, and working to not take part in it or perpetuate it, are also parts of being an ally.

"I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."
~Elie Wiesel

Added notes:
--Just want to clarify: this is an ally group. That means that members of this group may or may not be LGBTQ+, but they must be allies, i.e. as welcoming of an LGBTQ+ person as they would be of a straight cisgender person, and refusing to tolerate bigotry against us. No one here is "outed" by virtue of being here; straight cisgender people are also welcome.

--Also, a reminder to members: This group is open to the public, so if you come out on this Facebook group's wall, you are coming out to the world. If you're not ready to do that, this isn't the place. If you are, great :)
