Aaron James Cashell - Biography

As a young boy, Aaron James Cashell saw at close hand how to entertain a crowd. His dad, professional boxer John Davison, strutted his stuff for years in front of packed houses, winning a host of championship belts, as young Aaron watched from ringside. But it wasn’t in the boxing ring that Aaron chose to pursue his own particular dream, although years of sparring with his famous Dad have left him with a physique many boxers would envy.

‘For as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing songs’ recalls Aaron, now 22. ‘Even though I’ve spent hours and hours in the boxing gym, music has always been my first love.’

It’s a love he’s pursued with a passion, making his first public appearance at the tender age of just fourteen at a top Newcastle nightclub. ‘As soon as I walked on stage, I felt like a different person. I was completely hooked and it’s a magic that has never faded. I love being in the studio, but nothing compares to singing live.’

It was a talent that was nurtured by his parents. ‘About the time of my first gig, they bought me a guitar so I could start to play the tunes that until then had existed only in my head. I disappeared into my bedroom and they didn’t see me again until I was sixteen!’

Aaron was starting to develop his own style, which has continued to evolve, drawing on influences as wide as Musiq SoulChild, John Legend, Anthony Hamilton and Paulo Nutini (R Kelly/ Mary J Blige) as well as ??????? to develop musical identity which is a blend of R & B, Soul, Pop Dance and even Garage. His powerful yet soulful voice attracted the attention of music giants Sony, as well as attention from America. ‘I had one guy who told me that to get noticed I should do cover versions’ he says smiling ‘but to me, it’s important that you find your own voice and do your own thing’.

After a number of other projects, including collaborating with fellow artist D Flow on the powerful and melancholic single ‘Choices’, Aaron was more determined than ever to earn his big break all by himself. ‘Everything I’ve done has developed me both as a singer and a songwriter and I’ve loved all the experiences I’ve had. But it’s also important to me that I’m in control of my own destiny, my own music’

It’s an attitude that’s stood him in good stead, with Blues & Soul Magazine recently describing Aaron as being gifted with a voice that could make him ‘the next major soul icon’ and comparing his talent to that of legends John B, Lemar and Nate James. High praise indeed and it was clear that his talent would not go unnoticed in the music industry for very much longer.

Aaron has travelled far from his North East base to spread the word about his unique style, appearing in some of the UK’s most popular clubs and exclusive events sharing the stage as the supporting act for acts like The Multi-Talented Taio Cruz and Leo from the platinum selling band “The Streets” as well as supporting stars from the other side of the pond like US Grammy Nominated Rap Star Joe Budden, but Aaron still love his home base ‘Home is where the heart is and I have a lot of people here who will come along and support me. I get a great reception in the North East and doing my thing here always feels just that little bit more special’.

Given the versatility of Aaron’s voice and the breadth of his musical influences, his debut album is sure to have a little bit of something for everyone. There’s fun filled R & B dance floor fillers, as well as ballads for those quiet moments alone. ‘As I’ve matured, I write more and more about what has happened in my life, both good and bad. It’s what I feel people to relate to, the ups and downs that everyone has. It gives a little taste about what Aaron James Cashell is all about. Boxing’s loss is definitely music’s gain….

Following quotes below are from respected Radio Personality’s, Club DJ’s and Media.

As one of his producers, I’ve been working with Aaron on and off for a number of years, watching him grow literally from a boy to a man. He has proved himself to be one of the hardest working young singers to emerge from the home grown urban music scene. Aaron has enjoyed continued specialist urban support across the UK, with his distinctive style also finding favour throughout Europe and the USA.
Given the right backing and musical guidance, I believe that Aaron has a bright future ahead of him in this business that we call music.

Aaron has a great tone with strong vocals and a fantastic stage presence.
I've had the pleasure of seeing him live as well as playing his music on my radio show.
A truly unique style and personality which sets him apart and make him stand out.

"Aaron has both talent and determination, i see a very bright future for this guy"

"Aaron James Cashell is a force to be reckoned with. His father's fighter instinct has obviously rubbed off, not in a physical, but in a mental sense, as his unbelievable persistance and ambitious personality has rewarded him with major radio airplay and numerous gigs not only in the UK, but also across the globe in Switzerland and Dubai, as a headliner, as well as a support act for countless top international artists. His shy-yet-charming personality shines through in his uplifting, heart-felt music, which is nicely topped off with a strong, masculine, soulful and beautifully honed vocal delivery, leaving ladies immediately weak at the knees and many guys wishing they had the same casanova abilities...Aaron is a very promising artist with a lot more to offer than meets the eye and definitely has what it takes to be the next big thing in UK Soul, provided he has the right people to back him up. I really hope to hear more goodness from him in the near future!"
(DJ SoulChild, Switzerland’s Biggest Urban DJ)

Aaron stands out from the glut of bland, generic singers who just want to be famous at any cost. It's clear from his music that he's far more driven by a genuine desire to put something creative and special out there.
