redgate boys silver band (st helens england)

Redgate was a brass band that started out in the 50's in St Helens. The band was very active well into the 80's. Redgate were the premier brass band in St helens they regularly represented the town at civic functions including twin town visits to Stuttgard Germany.Over many years they had an exchange programme with 3 brass bands in Norway.Redgate also represented the UK at the World Music Festival in Purmerend, Holland winning the gold medal on a number of occassions.In the late 60's early 70's Redgate also appeared on Opportunity Knocks with Hughie Green winning 2 weeks in a row, quite an achievement.Many people will remember Leo Murphy as the founder of the band and Terry Collins as his second in command.
