Awka is the capital of Anambra state in eastern Nigeria.
Awka comprises seven groups. Ezi-Awka, Agulu Awka,Umuokpu and Amenyi are the original people. Ifite Section, the senior section, comprises four groups, followed by Ezinator Section, which consists of three groups. Each of these groups has a number of villages". All together, Awka comprises 33 villages.
Awka people as in ancient times travel far and wide, Living abroad, we formed social clubs like Awka Union USA and Canada, Awka town social community Uk and Ireland and other such useful associations. you will find similar groups in all parts of Nigeria, Africa, and the world over.
These associations have been a way for our people to enjoy their culture as well as to engage in community self-help projects, get advise, socialise and even meet potential marriage patners.
Over the years Awka Town has attracted people from other states in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
The Awka development Union is an umbrella organization that is the root of all Awka Union social clubs worldwide.
When people migrate or emigrate, they need a way to keep in touch with each other and the local meetings of the A.D.U is a way to do this.
End of year parties is a wonderful way to bring people together although its not an alternative to going home to Awka, it gives a much needed relief to those who feel disconnected or home sick.
Awka people are expected to find out their local A.D.U meeting (by asking somone) and register their membership, attend meetings and participate, meet old friends and make new ones.
All men and women of 18 yrs and above are invited, the parties usually offer free drinks, food and great music.

Emeke Nwogbo was the A.D.U President at the time when he joined us in co funding this forum. He is now the elected representative in the federal legislative arm of govt in Abuja. he stepped aside from admin role to ensure nutruality of Awka33.
