Get the Koch Money Out of our Politics and Elections

God Bless Amerikoch (thanks Citizens United)

We are told that c...orporations are now people. The American Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition copyright ©2000, defines “people” as follows:

1. Humans considered as a group or in indefinite numbers.
2. A body of persons living in the same country under one national government; a nationality.
3. pl. peo·ples A body of persons sharing a common religion, culture, language, or inherited condition of life.
4. Persons with regard to their residence, class, profession, or group: city people.
5. The mass of ordinary persons; the populace. 6. The citizens of a political unit, such as a nation or state; the electorate. Used with the.
7. Persons subordinate to or loyal to a ruler, superior, or employer: The queen showed great compassion for her people.
8. Family, relatives, or ancestors.

You, me, your family and your friends are all people. We can easily identify with that list of definitions because they clearly define both our humanity and our place in the world.

Does a corporation fit ANY of those definitions?

If we are meant to accept corporations as people, then let’s start treating them like we generally treat other people. Let’s face it. We don’t like or trust all people. Some people are our friends. Some people are our enemies. We make a concious decision on which people we allow to be part of our lives. We need to start applying that same power of reasoning over the new-found “people” in our lives, the “People Corporation”.

Just think of how hard it has been to keep corporations in check BEFORE they had what will now essentially be human rights equal to our own. For generations corporations have manipulated our buying habits, tastes and culture. Now these new “People Corporations” want to manipulate which people govern our country and how they govern it. The Koch brothers appear to be using their immense wealth to change the shape and direction of our country, by their manipulation of the electoral process and it must be stopped. We provide their lifeblood by purchasing their goods and services and if the Koch brothers “People Corporation” are one of those “people” that we choose not to like, what better way to tell them then to stop continuing to contribute to their wealth and encouraging others to do likewise.

The more conservative amongst us are fond of quoting the phrase “We the People” and rightly so because that noble belief of a government by the people and for the people was the very essence of our Founding Fathers vision of our society. Yet even back then they knew that although all people were created equal, that didn’t necessarily also mean that all people were to be equally trusted…

"those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes" (Thomas Jefferson).

I asked if a corporation fit any of the definitions of “people”? A corporation does not fit any of the definitions of “people”, but it would appear that Thomas Jefferson captured the definition of a “People Corporation “ perfectly.
