Yellowstone Hiking

This group is about hiking and the trails in Yellowstone Nationa...l Park and the surrounding area. All posts must be related to hiking, camping, or visiting the greater Yellowstone area.

See this post for information on how to add/edit events in the group's calendar. The event list is for hikes or other events directly related to hiking that occur within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem only.

NEW RULES FOR COMMERCIAL POSTS

Over the past few weeks, we've started to get more and more commercial posts here in the group. I've generally not been averse to these so long as they have some nexus to hiking. However, in order to keep the group from becoming overly spammed with commercial come ons, I'm instituting a new rule:

***All ads and posts promoting or advertising a commercial product have to be approved before you post them. Those that are posted without approval will be deleted. If you re-post it without approval, you get banned.***

Anything that is approved must be related to hiking in the greater Yellowstone or Grand Teton areas. So, in other words, no general ads for running shoes, or tents, or camping gear, and so forth. However, if you want to post a link to a commercial product such as a company that conducts tours of the parks, or a book about Yellowstone, etc., those would likely be approved. If someone asks about a specific product or type of product, I am not averse to people posting links inside those discussions, however (unless it is blatant spamming).

While I'm generally ambivalent about commercial posts, the group is starting to get busier (we're almost at 2K members now), and I don't want to see discussion posts bumped down because of advertising. Plus, there are plenty of other places where you can find information about camping supplies, shoes, and whatnot. I don't think banning those types of things does a disservice to this community.
