Alternative Thinking for Economics Society [ATES] - University of Sheffield

We're the Alternative Thinking for Economics Society. We believe that university economics curriculums don't properly give the full picture of how societies work, but filling in these gaps may help us better understand issues facing the world today from inequality to climate change to the financial crisis. As a society we'll both work to bring about changes to the economics syllabus through liaising with the department and promoting awareness among economics students, and educate ourselves about non-mainstream economic theories by readings, seminars and discussions.

We meet every week in term time for an informal discussion about economic ideas and how they apply to the real world. Meetings are in view room 5 of the Students' Union, from 5-6pm on Wednesdays. More details about topics and any tweaks to time/place we'll let you know here, on twitter, or in the monthly email that we send out to members.

This group is for members to keep up-to-date with our society activities, notices and events; and share relevant articles or posts about economics. Please no posts promoting campaigns, events, or pages from other persons or societies than this one unless we're collaborating with them on it - any posts of this kind will be removed!
