This group has been set up to help predominantly in the rescue of Vizsla and Vizsla crosses but will also try to help GSP’s when possible, who have been abandoned,
and left to starve on the streets in Cyprus. These breeds are used for ‘hunting’ purposes in Cyprus, but are not trained and spend most of the year penned up in corrugated iron sheds in the scorching sun. When the first day of hunting arrives they are taken out and if they then run off when they hear the gun for the first time, they are left to fend for themselves and are normally found in poor conditions, hungry and scared.
All the dogs we rescue, are tested for leishmania before we go ahead and are then fostered in Cyprus by a very small team, who know the breeds and rehabilitate and get them back to good health both physically and psychologically before sending them to new homes in the UK. All potential homes in the UK are home checked and full support is offered once the dog arrives.
This all takes money, so we do ask for a donation towards the adoption of the dog to help this group continue in its work. All members of the group are also asked to help when they are able with fundraising or a regular donation to the Paypal address admin@hprsinneed.co.uk.
A number of successful rescues have taken place, with the help of Friends of Dogs in Need, and HVC Welfare (UK) and these lucky dogs are now enjoying their new homes in the UK, which is the other reason for this group. This group also allows all the new owners of the rescued dogs, including some ‘honorary Vizslas’ to keep in touch with each other and the Cyprus foster mums.
We do not ‘do’ politics and recognise all members of this group bring knowledge, expertise and ideas to improve on what we do. We all agree that the plight of the dogs comes first and foremost in all we do. Any inappropriate comments or remarks will be deleted.
We have a small admin team, based in UK and Cyprus and if you have a dog you wish the group to consider we would ask you to please contact one of the team prior to posting on the group, as we are only a small team and have to be selective about which dogs we can help unfortunately.
