蔡李佛起源
蔡李佛的始創人為廣東新會縣崖西京梅鄉陳享。他生於清嘉慶十一年（...公元一八零六年），幼年天資聰穎。伯祖陳遠護是少林俗家弟子，他是陳享的啟蒙老師，後來並介紹陳享到他的同門李友山處深造。陳享刻苦學習，四年後李友山希望陳享能百尺竿頭，更進一步，於道光六年（公元一八二六年）寫信給陳享拿到羅浮山拜蔡福為師。蔡福是李友山同門，本是少林護法僧。自少林寺遭火劫後，便在羅浮山結茅隱居。
八年後，即道光十三年（公元一八三三年），陳享回到故鄉，當時苗猺反清勢力遍及南方各地，苗族領袖龍騰與陳遠護是八拜之交，派了兒子龍子才來廣東，結果他拜了陳享為師，後來對創立蔡李佛門派出了不少力。
陳享觀察山猴跳躍及鳥雀飛翔的形態，從而領悟出武術進退攻守的道理。後來陳享回到故鄉，與弟子埋首鑽研武學，去蕪存菁，訂定「擒拿掛掃、插拋撞爪、鞭劈擂陰」等手法，再結合「撐釘撩踢、掃截勾彈」等腳法，列五輪馬、五輪搥為基本練習初階，並編各類器械拳練樁法，著練拳行功秘要。後於道光十六年（公元一八三六年），在京梅鄉緣福祖祠設立練武場，樹立「蔡李佛拳派」旗幟。
『蔡李佛』的意思是紀念蔡福、李友山兩位師傅及以示及尊師重道之意，「佛」字則代表源出於少林佛門；轆轎虎爪為紀念蔡福師傅、魁星踢斗為紀念李友山師傅；而日月拳掌、前後三禮乃向陳遠護、李友山、蔡福三位師傅致敬。而後來陳享亦有支持太平天國，後來太平天國勢力轉弱後陳享歸隱於故鄉，派遣張炎主持佛山分館－「鴻勝館」，以後的「鴻勝蔡李佛」即由此而來。
蔡李佛始祖陳享公以天賦智慧，集蔡、李、佛門諸山絕技，參眾妙，集大成，去蕪存菁，加以變化，以拋、扱、掛、掃、插、擒拿、爪、鞭、劈等手法為經，合、釘、撩、踼、掃、截、勾彈等腳法為緯，攻主快、狠、準。守主靜、閒、觀，不動靜如湖面水，動如驟浪傾孤舟，簡單中趨繁，平凡中蘊奇，盡陰陽之理，虛實之道，變幻無端，念技源肇少林佛門，以冠蔡福、李友三兩師姓氏於首，命名『蔡李佛拳派』。
第二傳人雷燦祖師則在廣州市惠愛西路設鴻勝支館傳人甚眾，滿佈廣州市，後因病歸山，其嫡傳弟子有譚三師傅承繼衣砵，天賦學武之才，獨創連環插捶，在小北設館，遂以『北勝』為號。
譚三先師廣東開平懸人，幼在江門隨阮泰學洪拳，擅使雙捶椿，後投雷燦門下學習鴻勝蔡李佛，雷燦為張鴻勝之入室弟子，譚師得其真傳，又時與黃滔及劉忠等人日夕揣摩，創立不少優越手法，大有青出於藍。
譚師拳術精湛，擅使連環插搥，生平與人比試，未嘗稍挫，此粵人所知，然其天資聰穎， 愛好文學，既俠且儒，他的弟子及鄉親，眾所皆知。
後設館於廣州市小北倉邊路教授鴻勝蔡李佛拳術，因門徒利錦，周慶等極力主張改名北勝，由於贊成之人數人多，所以日後改稱北勝，北勝拳術之分別，擅用高庄馬，進退快速，用時剛極似柔，柔極似剛，吐之愈 長，吞之愈短。看似剛猛非常，其實仍有柔之存在，正如用繩之一端繫帶飛陀，而手執其繩之另一端揮舞，其勁屬柔中取之，但其擊中之力非常雄猛也。
