Kopong Leicester City Football Club

Kopong Lister-City FC is an amateur team plying its trade in the third division in Kweneng District, Botswana. It was formed in the early 80s, once popularly known as Tlhape Rovers. The team is nicknamed "Masonya a Mantshonyana" or Black Ants.

It has been promoted to the first division only twice, most recently under the management of Sennanyana aka Stan in 2006/2007 season. They only spent one season there before being relegated after losing influential players and eventually sacking the manager. Since then they have struggled to gain promotion again. The season 2012/2013 saw them relegate to the third division (where they are currently fighting for promotion) after spending 6 seasons at division 2.

The order of the team has always been that they perform well in the first round and a dismal showing in the second round always knock them of the top of the table. This problem has ALWAYS been attributed to the weak management of the team, but this season (2013/2014) is a promising one as for the first time since the all conquering season of 2006/2007 management is well established and after first round the team finished on position 2 with only 6 points separating them from the league leaders. Each management position has a designated personnel, from club president to club captain. The morale of the team is high and there is competition for place in the team.

Kopong Leicester City FC's local rivals include Kopong United (Known as Lesedi), Kopong Classic (formerly known as Top Stars) and Mapetla Senior Birds. It can be argued though that their fiercest rivals are Mapetla, though matches between them and Lesedi have proven to be interesting too, with duals to remember between Powder and Dimbo, Mike and Chukwu etc. An interesting encounter to highlight these duels is the one that KU played away to LCFC and the supporters of KU brought along balloons and well dressed in suits after the team had dazzled for the whole season and were already promoted to division 1, but the game ended 2-1 in favor of LCFC. Despite all the rivalry, players have moved amongst all of these teams, but not without controversy.

Leicester City is one of the most supported teams in Kopong, dominating support in the south eastern part of village (Mashibitswe). Though the team is doing well only a few supporters are rallying behind them after the disappointment of relegation, we as players would like to ask our supporters to COME AND SUPPORT US IN LARGE NUMBERS, WE ARE LOOKING AT A NEW AND BRIGHT FUTURE FOR LEICESTER CITY FC AND TOGETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE THIS.
