The Cordillera Region of the Philippines has six provinces,- Abra, Apayao ,Kalinga,Benguet, Ifugao and Mt. Province and one highly urbanized city - Baguio City. This region is home to various indigenous peoples collectively called "Igorots". The richness of our heritage and culture gives us one unique identity - " Our way of life in the highlands".
Since 1995, group of families from the Cordilleras in Auckland gathered around the dinner table to share food and stories from their great expectations and life experiences as migrants in New Zealand. This communal gatherings always culminated with the beating of the gongs,-"Gangsa" and the different Cordilleran dances.
The encouragement from one another paved the way to create an official organization, originally named "Igorot Organization of NZ". Through the years, the group has evolved and the need to change the group's name was inevitable.
OCNZ thrives in the principle and objective of identifying itself as an avenue towards empowering its members in facing life's challenges while at the same time maintaining and strengthening Cordilleran cultural roots.
